Lost in Familiar Surroundings, 2018 - 2022.

An ongoing project that draws upon imagery and symbols from Celtic lore as a way of connecting to the land where I live. As a person of settler ancestry in North America, I wonder at the bone-deep connection to the land that I feel - where does it come from? How is it possible? At the same time, I also experience a kind of visceral confusion about the lost heritage and culture of my ancestors - a matriarchal culture that has been supressed for centuries, replaced by patriarchy, capitalism and Christianity.

For me, Ktagmkuk/Newfoundland embodies all of these complex feelings and experiences.

Images include site specific installations in Port Union, NL, created while in residence at Union House Arts and various photographs taken around the Bay of Islands.
